EXCERPTS FROM THE NOVEL:
He (PK’s Father) turned and faced Dr. Sheffield. “Where does one’s privacy end and a baby’s dignity begin? This is not advocating the total annihilation of abortion. The advanced medical abilities to successfully treat women and the illness of unborn children were not available in 1973. The Constitution is a living document. Our laws should adapt responsibly and morally with our society. Our choice is to bring life to the world. Hopefully, that life will be a light.”
(PK reflects on her personal beliefs on human life and God.)
I had not planned to enter parenthood now. It may be a surprise to my family, but it is not a surprise to God. I believe that the Lord has a purpose in everyone’s life.
To me, the very meaning of life means that there will be death at some point. Good and bad things happen to good and bad people. I couldn’t believe God sits distant in heaven to judge us. Even harder to believe was that He intentionally sends tragedies into our lives to destroy us. Sickness, poverty, pain, and more is natural to all whoever walks the planet. I don’t think anyone can blame God when terrible things happen to them. People rarely thank Him for the small blessings they receive every day. They have long forgotten about them and believe they deserve all the good treasures in life.
(PK [now pregnant] purchases a card for her mother to begin a dialogue about her unknown pregnancy.)
I went to the greeting card section and purchased a card for expectant mothers. The outside of the card read: Congratulations on your expected blessing. The inside had the following message:
When God produced light and darkness, He spoke them into existence.
When God made the waters and land, He called them into place.
When God fashioned plants and animals, He said it and it was so.
When God created humans, He designed us with His very hands and personally breathed life into our fragile bodies.
Life is God’s most valuable gift. Each one is precious, special, and personalized from Him.
